Just a few hours after the men’s team booked their semi-final berth by beating Guyana Amazon Warriors, the Barbados Royals women’s team stormed into the final by beating the same opponent. With a comprehensive 5-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors Women, the Hayley Matthews-led side has entered the first-ever final of The 6ixty.
After winning the toss, the Warriors elected to bat first, but were pushed on the backfoot straight away with Qiana Joseph removing opener Chamari Athapaththu. Captain Stafanie Taylor then steadied the ship, top-scoring with 28 alongside Shemaine Campbelle. But a joint run-out effort from Fatima Sana and Shakera Selman sent the skipper walking back. An all-round bowling performance from the Royals meant that the Warriors never really recovered, and were bundled out for 58 in 9.5 overs.
Matthews then stepped up with the bat too and made light work of the chase, with her unbeaten 25 and Chloe Tryon’s 27* guiding the Royals comfortably. The Royals lost opener Britney Cooper early in the innings, but it hardly made a difference as the Matthews-Tryon pair brought the team home in 7.3 overs.
The Royals will clash against Trinbago Knight Riders in the final on Monday.
